Day 11 - Worst

December 11

Christmas Canon - Trans-Siberian Orchestra

For those not familiar with the band Trans-Siberian Orchestra, they are an incredibly talented and dedicated group of musicians that come together during the Christmas season to perform large, rock style concerts to sold out crowds. They arrange Christmas Music to their style, and most of it is written by them.
Most, but not all.
Christmas Canon is actually Pachelbel's Canon, written in approximately 1694, and is NOT a Christmas Song. Here's why its on the worst list: Pachelbel was a talented composer, whose works have unfortunately been lost. His Canon, AKA "Canon in D," is one of the only pieces of music that survives! T.S. Orchestra doesn't care. They took it and pawned it off as their own, and are making LOTS of money off of their arrangement. Most people hearing the song for the first time believe they wrote the song on their own (although to be fair, T.S. Orchestra has credited the composer in tiny little print on their $16.99 CDs.)

Here is a hilarious comedy routine about how popular the chord structure of Pachelbel's Canon is:

And here is the original, in case you'd like to hear it for real:
